For our pre-season match, we were up against newly formed London College of Arts. Unfortunately, there was miscommunication in the home team and only one of their girls turned up. As a result we ended up rotating against one mixed pair and one men’s doubles (N.B. The score 6-3 reflects only on the mixed matches played).
The New Kids on the Block breezed past in just two games, and the Replaceables were pushed to a third. But both pairs overcame early nerves and ended the games with a good win against the home mixed side. It was a learning curve for the whole team, as they were able to discover their weaknesses (or simply a lack of practice) and they will be looking to build up on it over the season.
The home side’s men’s pair were, as expected, very hard opponents. However, the New Kids on the Block proved to be a formidable pair, and they were able to push them to a 21-19 score line. Their form will earn them a place as first seed for the next match.
