The 2nd match to the season was against bitter rivals GKT. With nerves of steel we entered the tense environment of the cramped courts. Being ten minutes late ourselves, we were quickly rushed into games as we supposingly had one and a half hours to play on two courts. We later found out that actually we were going to use three courts, but they wanted to rush us off their courts so their first team could practice for the Nottingham games in the weekend. We were not impressed.
Without a proper warm up, we were thrown into the heat of battle. The team found it intimidating to play under the pressure of taunts from the home fans. In a short sentence, we lost all our games. But we were close in a number of occasions, and we found it frustrating as we could not perform to our usual standard in the smaller than usual courts. The bitterness did also come with the level at which they played at. It didn’t feel as if they were competing with us. If anything, it felt more like we were playing a social match with us, sometimes doing trick shots that often failed.
Anyway, I think we did try our best for a team assembled on such short notice, and so we head into a friendly next week, desperately needing a lift in confidence.
