Mens vs. Kings College London 1st

Luke Yahanpath
BUSA League Match 31/01/07
Away
Lost 6-2

With high hopes, the merry RUMS Badminton troupe marched off to Elephant & Castle to battle KCL 1sts. After a somewhat confusing journey to E&C, we finally found ourselves in the sports hall eagerly anticipating a challenging match.

Feeling fitter and faster than ever, I took on the ever undesired role playing singles. Marvin also relished the challenge. However, neither of us managed to give us the early lead that we needed, losing both our games fairly convincingly. Guy and Hamster similarly lost their game. So the outlook was bleak in the run up to the second set of matches, however, we realised that one of the KCL doubles pairs was incomplete and so we were likely to be given 2 games, so everything was still to play for. Whilst Katen and Jiehan battled it out on the doubles court. Marvin and I took on our second matches. The added adrenaline showed with tight games throughout BUT alas, we eventually lost all the games. So we negotiated the maze that is the E&C underpass and schlepped off to the pub where we discovered the marvels of nachos and origami (Guy made a cobra; I made an amazing stumpy-legged elephant/flying squirrel/boat).

Thanks to everybody who has played in the team this season. I've had a really great time. I hope you've all enjoyed it too. Training will continue through the second and third terms to build a solid team for next year when we'll be chasing that promotion that we narrowly missed out on and so obviously deserve.

On another note: the AGM is coming up soon, so if you're considering running for men's captain, please feel free to get in touch with me if you want to know what exactly I do, other than write match reports.
