Mens vs. UCL 2nd
Luke Yahanpath
BUSA League Match 19/10/2006
Away
Lost 6-2
Not quite Orwellian metamorphosis but the RUMS Badminton match report is fairly close...
In a summary, our first BUSA match this season was lost 6-2. However, that doesn't express the narrowness of the margin... so I just had to write a full report. That, and it's a convenient distraction from 200 pages of reading material on photoacoustic ultrasonography...
Having been rallied by a speech that even the most experienced general would have been proud of: "Everybody happy? Good... Well... erm... good luck!", we embarked on the first round of games...
With Malcolm charging around the court like an over-excited leopard, I was left chanting a motto of "Dance like a butterfly, sting like a bee". We took it to the third game, but finally lost it 26-24. Owch!
Meanwhile, on the other court: Guy found himself against Sonic the Ninja Hedgehog. How does one beat a Ninja hedgehog? He didn't know... a little while later, Heylong found that he didn't know either. At the end of the day, I was left wondering if the hamster could have beaten the ninja hedgehog...
However, Hamster was partnering Matt. They narrowly lost both their games with some great rallies and very close scorelines.
Malcolm and I got one back with the UCL pair attempting some fox-like cheating: I congratulated Malcolm at 22-20, but apparenlty, they weren't having any of it. So we took another point to make it 23-20 and that apparently convinced them... I'm still waiting for someone to explain to me how 23-20 is two clear points...
In the meantime, Guy had pulled out some rather nifty singles play to bring us our other win.
I can't say I'm happy that we lost (to UCL of all teams... in fact, I'm now sobbing in my room), but it was a great start to the season. Well done all! Good luck to the mixed team, playing Imperial Farmers on Saturday (i.e. no team practice this week)
