Mens Womens Mixed
Mens vs. King's College London 2nd
Marvin Daglish
BUSA League Match 06/12/06
Away
Drew 4-4
Well as Luke so eloquently put it ("defacating my entire body water right now") he was otherwise unable to captain the match on wednesday against KCL 2nds. So some last minute organising fell upon myself. REALLY last minute organising - thanks Jiehan for getting drafted in last second, commiserations to Matt for his genetic lack of alchohol dehydrogenase! And not forgetting Guy for his sudden "flu"... only joking. It was down to us five remaining (Neil, Nick/Hamster, Jiehan, Mo and me) to overcome the first hurdle - the Elephant & Castle roundabout.
So how did it go?? With one singles player down that was an immediate 2 out of 8 games to them but by some turn of fate they also were missing a singles player and the players that were there looked as though they had supersized themselves one too many times.
'Great', I thought until some spark went off in the KCL team captain's head that got him to grab some randomer to stand in. It made no difference that Neil confidently beat them both in straight games. Mo and I even won a game! It all fell upon Nick and Jiehan to win their last game at 18-18 to draw and not concede the match.
I led by Luke's captaining example here to give encouragement - "no pressure Nick but we need this so we don't lose". Only then did the hamster suddenly break into sweat and get those much needed points.
We DREW!! High fives all around and the best outcome from a grim start. Cheers to everyone who played.
